Neutral Farmhouse Style for a Teen Guys Bedroom

|

It is that time my friends, time to FINALLY begin the process of styling my teenage boys’ bedroom. My boys have had to share a room since we bought our home. Mind you, they are now 16 and 18 years old. WOWZER! So, they are not small people and their room IS! I have been so excited to team up with Joss and Main to create a neutral farmhouse style for a teen guys bedroom. Each piece of decor will be linked at the end of this post to make it easy for you to create this space in your home.

ANCHOR PIECES When styling a room, I like to pick what I call the “anchor pieces” first. For this room, I wanted a farmhouse vibe to coincide with the decor in the rest of the house. That being said, my first selection was the black metal bed. I love how this style of bed goes in pretty much any space. The other anchor pieces for this room are the dresser and night stand. I always enjoy incorporating a rustic feel in a masculine space. The brownish-gray color of these pieces tie in the entire room.

WORKSPACE
The guys need a desk for their homework and I fell in love with this one from Joss and Main. I love the simplicity of the metal legs and the wooden top. I paired it with this white and wood chair to tie in the white bedding and dresser. I added the adjustable desk lamp for their late night study sessions they always seem to have going.

WALL ART

I wanted to find wall art that was more of a mature and not boyish style. As I said, they are now 16 and 18 and I wanted the room to feel more like a place they would love to come home to once they leave for college, which for one of them, is in a few months. And don’t think this momma is happy about that. Cue the tears!

I love the black and white map, the gold propeller, the canvas pieces and the name letters. All of these pieces add a more grown-up touch to the room.

LIGHTING

In their room, I thought it would be a good idea to put lighting above each of their beds for another option to late night reading/studying. After looking at many options, I found myself coming back to these swing arm sconces. I like how versatile they are and how they allow for some movement. As far as overhead lighting, I chose this industrial ceiling fan with light kit. To me, it adds such a nice look to the space and ties in perfectly with the metal bed.

FINISHING TOUCHES

I like to select my accessories last when finishing off a room I am redecorating. This rug caught my eye for a long time and I am so excited to put it somewhere in my home. Since I am going with a black and white theme for the boy’s room, I thought this would be the perfect spot. The fiddle fig will bring in some color to this space as will the succulents. I love using poufs in a room for additional seating and this one is just gorgeous. And one can never have too many baskets in a room. They are perfect for storage of blankets, toys, pillows, etc…

My boys have a tendency to sleep on top of their comforters so they don’t have to make their beds each morning. They use a blanket instead, so, I thought the ladder would be a great place to hold those blankets when they are not in use. I complete the room by selecting pillows. I loved the green velvet pillow and the black and white lumbar pillow for the boy’s beds.

FARMHOUSE BOYS ROOM RECAP

I hope you have enjoyed this inspiration post as much as I did making it. I cannot wait to get some of these pieces in so I can show you the reveal once I have it all set up. More to come, loves!
